WHAT IS AN ARTIST PROOF?
Artist proofs are provided to the artist by the lithographic printer as samples of the limited edition prints. The proofs -- once accepted by the artist -- are usually retained by the artist. After all prints are sold, the artist may release a limited number of artist proofs Rarely does the number of artist proofs exceed 10% of the original limited printing. These prints are signed by the artist and assigned low numbers. The artist proofs are set apart by a hand written designation of  “AP” ascribed to each copy along with the artist's signature. The prints are of highest quality and are printed on the same museum quality paper as the original printing.
