The largest sequoia is the General Sherman Tree in Sequoia National Park. This Sierra big tree is as wide as a big blue
whale (101½ feet) one hundred feet above the ground!
But it’s only 272 feet high.

The Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) is generally considered the "largest" living organism. The Giant Sequoia
is found primarily in scattered groves in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of eastern California.

The General is estimated to be between 3,000 and 4,000
years old. There's more to learn.

Mount Vernon's Tulip Poplar is one of the most significant trees planted by President and General George Washington. The Tulip Poplar is the second print in the National Register of Historic
Trees series.

Mount Vernon's garden has received a great deal of international attention about its efforts to preserve the botanical heritage of
the 13 surviving trees planted by Washington. You can learn
